I just stumbled upon an interesting series of videos. Ogilvy interview with Dr. Vinton G. Cerf, talking about the importance of current Internet technology; specifically social networking and advertising.
My big take-away… “We call it advertising when we’re not interested in it… when we’re interested, we call it information.”
This is the summation of what content-related / user-history advertising does. It places ads in front of the eyeballs of people who have expressed an interest in a particular topic, or have visited sites about a particular topic.
